Geometry Selection

Introduction

This topic will explain the Feature Geometry Picking dialog for the Facing Feature, and will provide links to related topics.

The Feature Geometry Picking Dialog

The first step of the Mill Facing Wizard is to assign geometry for the feature. All operations in the feature are performed on the selected geometry. This can be a single entity or multiple entities . The Geometry Selection dialog box appears similar to the following.

Stock Type

The first step is to define the overall shape of the stock by selecting the Stock Type. All definitions are explained in this topic. To jump to a particular stock types definition, click the associated icon in the table below.

Job Stock

Solid

STL

Wireframe

Active

Note: The following section will be different depending on the Stock Type selected. Below, the appropriate section will be listed under the corresponding stock type.

Job Stock

Compares the selected workpiece to the current stock used for the job. By default this is the option that is used without the need to enter the dialog. When selecting a Mill Facing feature, if you intend to use the workpiece and stock, simply click Next>> on the Geometry Selection page of the Mill Facing Wizard.

Note

The stock assigned to the job will be utilized to find the facing geometry.

Solid

Compares the Workpiece to the selected solid to create feature geometry.

Selected Geometry

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

(Delete All) - removes all entities from the list.

The list box will list the entities currently selected for the function.

STL File

Compares the Workpiece to the selected STL to create feature geometry.

STL File

File Name

Lists the file that was selected with the Browse button to act as stock.

  • Browse - displays the Open dialog box for you to locate and open an .stl file which is used to create the stock geometry. There is an informational display to show the file name of the file currently in use.

STL File Unit

Select the unit type in which the .stl file was created.

  • MM - sets the units read from the .stl file as millimeter.

  • Inch - sets the units read from the .stl file as inch.

Wire frame

Allows the user to select a wireframe loop as he would for any 2 Axis feature.

Selected Geometry

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

(Delete All) - removes all entities from the list.

The list box will list the entities currently selected for the function.

Feature Parameters

Note: The following section is the same regardless of the Stock Type chosen.

  • Recalculate - When a workpiece has been selected for the job, this recalculating will compare the workpiece to the currently selected stock type and reset the Top of Feature and Total Depth based on those selections. When no workpiece has been selected, the Top of Feature, and Total Depth values are left alone.

Top of Feature

This group will control the defined height of the feature. The Feed Plane, and Rapid Plane will be incremental from this height.

  • Top of Feature - sets the top of feature. This value is an absolute value based on the World Coordinate System.

Pick Top

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

This list box will show the entity currently selected for the function.

Total Depth

This group will control the defined depth of the feature.

  • Total Depth - sets the depth of the feature. This value is an incremental value from the Top of Feature.

Pick Bottom

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

This list box will show the entity currently selected for the function.
